The Charity Commission's Single Equality Scheme is our firm commitment to the promotion and support of equality and diversity, which is an integral part of our strategic plan and other key policies.

Our diversity vision

'We should act inclusively, upholding equality law, treating everyone fairly, and seeking to provide and promote a culture which delivers the best outcomes for the diverse society in which and for whom we work'

We will be reviewing our scheme in 2011-12 to ensure full compliance with the Equality Act 2010 and to fit with our new structure, following our Strategic Review. The detailed report below sets out what we have done to meet our statutory duties in accordance with our scheme.

In recent years we have made good progress. We have become a Stonewall Champion. We have introduced new diversity monitoring procedures to provide us with the data we need to have confidence that we are being a fair employer. We have conducted an equality pay audit and we seek to achieve a more diverse workforce through our recruitment initiatives.

This scheme is the result of a wider consultation and replaces our previously separate schemes for race, gender and disability. Our performance against these schemes was evaluated by our Employment duty analysis.

Diversity is about people and as we decide our future priorities we will continue to consult, listen and respond to both our internal and external stakeholders.

Equality and diversity analysis

Whenever the Commission is introducing or fundamentally changing our policies and procedures we undertake analysis to ensure that we have considered the impact on people with 'protected characteristics' as defined by the Equality Act 2010. We will publish this analysis here.
